The Tips page allows you to bribe various city officials to gain information used to help you in your mafia-related activities. It also allows you to sell [[Witness Statements]] for cash.

When you open the Tips page you are presented with a series of options that boil down to five persons open to bribery. Each serves a different function, has a different cost, and, depending on whether or not you have the [[Timer Package]] active, may have multiple options available. ===The Corrections Officer===
When you bribe your city's Corrections Officer it will cost you $5,000. The result will be a message detailing the fullest jail in the cities reading, "Word on the street is that 79 tough guys just got locked up in New York." It will list both the number of people currently locked up and which city they are located in.

===The FBN Agent===
Each city keeps count of how much you have tipped that city's agent. The amount of money that you will be charged for a tip increases as the number of drug units you can hold also increases. This is the first of the two officials to offer more options if you are using the Timer Package. Without timers you see only FBN Agent XXX, which offers general information such as: "Rumor has it that Chicago is paying top dollar for [[Drugs|Barbiturates]] at this moment. Or you may want to consider picking up some [[Drugs|Cocaine]] in New Orleans. I'm not sure how long these prices will last though." This is the cheapest option as you have no control over what you will receive.

With the timers, you gain two new options:
*A tip based on a specific drug: "Rumor has it that Philadelphia is paying top dollar for [[Drugs|Marijuana]] at this moment. Or you may want to consider picking up some Marijuana in Boston. I'm not sure how long these prices will last though." with price based on the drug you are searching for.
*A tip based on a specific city: "Rumor has it that Boston is paying top dollar for [[Drugs|Morphine]] at this moment. Or you may want to consider picking up some [[Drugs|Heroin]] in Boston. I'm not sure how long these prices will last though." with price base-lined at the cost of a Marijuana tip regardless of city chosen.

One thing that is of note: The min and max are directly related to your search and the city-wide drug scene when you pay for the tip. In the first example, Philadelphia's marijuana price could be fairly low making it a bad sell. This doesn't mean the tip lied to you, but rather that even at that low a price, Philadelphia was paying the most for marijuana.

The detective of the city can be tipped to find the name of an inactive civilian and the city that they are currently located in. The tip will cost you $25,000. The tip looks like: "Word on the street is that Diana has fallen out of favor in Philadelphia. You slide him an envelope containing $25,000"

The Madam is the second official to offer extra options if you have timers. Her first, and standard, option is simply to offer you the name of a city with at least one [[Bodyguards|bodyguard]] belonging to some dead guy. If there are none currently available, you aren't charged. Her second, and extra, option is to offer up the city and the name of the dead guy with the bodyguard(s). This second option will cost you half (.5) a [[Credits|credit]]. Her message looks like this: "Honey... word on the street is that 13 of those "big boys" are in hiding in Philadelphia. You slide her an envelope containing $30,000 and give her a wink."

The warden will let you buy scrambled Witness Statements (WS) that were sold to the warden. They come out looking like this: "Connor Smith slides you a letter. Inside it reads: "2012-08-19 11:13:23 You witnessed XXXXXX WACK bransford". You slide him an envelope containing $10,000 and walk away with your new found knowledge." The shooter's name's visibility is dependent on the original WS that was sold. Selling a WS can be done using the button located beneath the other tip options with is line above it: "Sell Info To The Warden ($10,000):". The warden will pay $10,000 for each WS sold, but only accepts WSs resulting in the death of a person that haven't already been sold to the warden; [[Wack|wack]] attempts, bodyguard wacks, and pickpockets are not accepted.

This is up to the user to report. *Roleplaying of an adult nature is frowned upon, but as long as both ADULT parties are in agreement, it is considered consensual relations and allowed. Should an instance occur where the parties are not in agreement, or one of the parties reports this to the administrators, the case will be investigated, and punishment will be dealt out on a case-by-case basis.
*No obscene, racist, pornographic, or otherwise discriminatory names.
*No spamming or abuse via mob mail or in forums. This includes advertising businesses and services in game. This also includes out of game sites. Do not mass mail people at random and you won't have a worry. This also include spamming for points. Spamming and excessively abusing users is bad, you die. Simple. If you feel you must spam every funeral because you think you're getting points for it—Don't bother. Reasons for not bothering:
**You don't get points.
**You could lose your account for spamming.
**You look like a complete fool.
**Posting "RIP" in every funeral is spam. You will die. Be creative, use the funerals for what they are there for, not to get your post count up.
*All bugs should be reported per the procedures outlined in the "Bug reporting" thread in the announcements forum. Users who exploit bugs, and are determined to have done so knowingly (by game administrators.) will suffer pain of death, and possibly worse.
*If there are, or there is a chance that there are, multiple players from your home, work, or school you MUST let us know every time you create a name by using the REPORT IP SHARING link under the management menu. If you are going to have more than one person playing from the same location (not just computer) we NEED to know. Otherwise you may get dupe wacked. You MUST report your NEW names AFTER you die. It is difficult to keep track of all of your names. We will NOT revive accounts for those who "forgot" or "didn't know".
**IP Sharing includes:
**Playing from school
**Playing from a library
**Multiple players in one home
**Playing from a friend's house
**Playing from a net cafe
**Playing from a wireless hotspot
**Playing using a cellular phone (Yes, even when it is plugged into your computer and being used as a modem.)
**Playing from any location that is public not listed above.
**Regardless of what you think, game administrators get the last say.

==Bug Reporting==

*If you happen to find a bug during your stay in this world, please follow these procedures to report it.

*There are three types of problems you could encounter: Fatal Errors, Warnings, or Logic Errors.

**When PHP throws a fatal error, the page will FAIL to execute properly. An error message will be printed to the page. (note: I'm considering parse errors fatal errors.) In general, these errors occur during updates to the site and have a lifespan of less than five minutes. As such, it is important that you wait a few minutes before reporting these. If you can't replicate these errors after waiting a few minutes, they're probably fixed.

**When the game detects a problem, it may throw a fatal error or a warning. All warnings and [User] Fatal Errors automatically mobmail a bug report to Administrator. You may or may not notice any weird behavior when one of these errors is encountered. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, please send a mobmail to Administrator.

**Logic Errors are errors that are caused by the a bad piece of code. In most cases, a logic error will not throw an error message. The free bodyguard bug we recently found is an example of a Logic Error. Please use discretion when reporting these; a money glitch should definitely not be posted in the forums, as malicious users will take advantage of it (and then I'll have to terminate their accounts). If you notice a logic error, no matter how large or small, report it by mobmailing Administrator.

**If you're not sure whether or not a problem should be reported, just go ahead and report it. I would rather receive 1000 mobmails about a particular problem than leave the problem unfixed.

*In general, the most reliable way to contact a game Administrator is to send a Mobmail to Administrator. All of the gods can read mail sent to that username. If the problem is time sensitive, you might also want to report it via IRC. (click on 'Chat' in the comm tab.) If you're not sure what to do, or whom to speak with, try asking around; chances are there will be someone online who can direct you to the appropriate persons.

**Recall, that per the Game Rules (see rules thread in announcements), users who are found to have knowingly exploited bugs will be dealt with as seen fit by the Gods. Repeat offenders risk being banished.

==Data Retention Policy==

No medium of storage on the game should be considered a place to archive anything indefinitely. This includes mobmail and forums. If you wish to keep records, do so on your own computer. While an effort is generally made to ensure that in-use data is not deleted, Mafia Returns makes no guarantee that your data will remain for any period of time. If you lose data in routine database maintenance following this mobmail, you will be on your own.

It is possible, however, unlikely that data you wished to keep will be deleted on occasion. By choosing to store your important data in any in-game medium (including forums/mobmail), you accept this risk. Mafia Returns does not assume responsibility for the integrity or security of any data you choose to store in its database.

This does not mean that you cannot archive mobmails today and expect them to be there next month or that you cannot save your hits to back alley threads. Just remember to keep them active and back them up occasionally. As previously stated: data considered active will not generally be harmed.

A Drug Front Property (DFP) is a business that can be purchased to provide free drugs that can be purchased by other players.

==Buying==
There are a few things one needs to know about buying a DFP. The first and absolutely most critical, is that one needs to be in his/her Home City before one can buy one; until then, none of the rest of this section will matter. Secondly, the total number of DFPs in the city is proportional to the number of people calling that city Home above a certain rank. A city with two families who are each maxed out at 50 members will have more DFPs available than a city with 5 families who only have 15 members each. The formula for the cost of a DFP is (average price of the drug)*# of units*7 so the cost of the DFP depends on the person who is buying it, but it can be estimated fairly accurately. Thirdly, the earliest one can buy a DFP is at the rank of Thug. Also, if one is not a member of a family, then one can not buy a DFP. The type of dug produced is tied to the rank of the person buying the DFP. The relation is as follows:

Like buying, upgrading needs to be done in one's Home City. The cost of upgrading a DFP is the same as the purchase price of the DFP, so unless one is planning to spend weeks at a time gaining each unit, it is more cost effective to only upgrade after being promoted, this gains one the benefit of only having to buy the upgrade every five units, and if it's boss or lower, it nets a new drug type at the same time. Money can also be saved if one sells and then re-buys the DFP rather than straight upgrading. The upside to doing this is that one gets a bit of the purchase price back upon selling it. The downside is that for the short time that it isn't owned, it IS possible for someone else to be trying to buy one right then and they'll get the one that was just sold. Also, if the city suffered recent losses or demotions, then it is on "borrowed DFPs", and no DFP will be available regardless of how fast one tries to buy it back.

The most cost effective thing is to not upgrade until one hits capo or boss for a heroin or cocaine DFP, respectively. Barbiturates are a nice intermediate DFP drug, but one will make 3000 more per unit per day with heroin or cocaine. That difference adds up quickly and will cover the cost of upgrading. If one is ranking efficiently one may want to consider not upgrading into intermediate drugs as it's an added cost that may be unnecessary.

==Operating and Keeping==
Operating one's DFP is rather simple as they do most of the work. All one needs to do is set the price and remember to bribe the cops off. This takes a few minutes when the DFP is first bought/upgraded, but only a mouse click afterwards.

Pricing can be done either exactingly or roughly. Most people boost the price up to the highest hundred it will go to, while others will fiddle with it trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of it. The choice is up to the owner, but remember: if no one buys the DFP's drugs, no profit is made.

But worse than this, the raid is announced in the coffee shops (IRC Forums) and everyone paying attention learns that there is now a DFP up for grabs. This is both embarrassing and financially painful when it happens. Also, crew leaders tend to frown on members that can not keep a DFP, even though they sign into the game daily.
