Ranks are the most common way of demonstrating the time and effort you have put towards your character. All characters start at the Civilian rank and as the requirements are fulfilled, promotions will be automatically granted up to and including Wise Guy. Afterwards, promotions must be awarded manually by your crew leader. Some crews may have established additional requirements before they are willing to issue the promotion; but even if those are met, there are still hard-coded requirements necessary before your character can receive a promotion.

- Earnable after reaching eight days of age.
- Minimum of twenty drug units required
- End of automatic promotions.

- Earnable after reaching eleven days of age.
- Minimum of twenty-five drug units required.
- Must be promoted manually by crew leader.
- Unlocked the first organized crime.
- Unlocks the second felony.
- Gains ability to accept associates (must be granted by crew leader).
- Minimum rank required to establish a crew

- Must kill the previous Godfather of the district.
- Is given a percentage of the tax money from all activities in the district.
